You and I apparently have a similar taste in movies π I’m in love with Monsters vs. Aliens, The Lion King, Mulan, Shrek, The Incredibles, Spirited Away, and Monster House!
If you haven’t already discovered the incredible Makoto Shinkai, do whatever you can to see some of his work.
He’s being called “the new Miyazaki”, and it’s truly masterful stuff.
No Wallace and Gromit?
If you fancy some animation that’s…well…disturbingly different, then I recommend this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgqmXK1pf7Y
Definitely one of the weirdest and creepiest animated shorts out there.
I’ve seen 9 of your favourite Top 10 Animations and agree that they are awesome. I’ll have to check out your number 3 as it’s the only one I haven’t seen. Cheers, Rose
This is hard not to comment on because I am a huge animation fan… What about Laika’s “Coraline”? And then how about another stop motion film, “Mary and Max.” Oh! And, “How to Train Your Dragon” …
Akira would be my #1 from this list.
I would also include Summer Wars, Princess Mononoke, Sword of the Stranger, and Ninja Scroll to my list…but that’s just me. Nice Choices though.
I love Miyazaki, Disney and Dreamworks films so… I pretty like your list !
Have you ever seen “From Up on Poppy Hill” or “How to train a dragon” ? I love them both !
Then someone talked about Makoto Shinkai. I’ve watched “Children Who Chase Lost Voices”. According to me, it’s not as good as Miyazaki’s production, but perfectly enjoyable !
Finally, Mamoru Hosoda can be the next good animation films maker for some. After watching “Wolf Children”, I disagree: the novel was way far better than the film !
Definitely a Studio Gibli fan! My cousin, got me to watch Ponyo … good little movie with no bad things that happen. It’s the sweetest movie Studio Gibli have brought out imo. Love Howl’s too!
Wow, well I’ll know where to come when I need a movie recommendation. I don’t keep up much, living on the mountain and all. Thanks a lot for following vsvevg. paz, Abby
Great List, I love another Hayao Miyazaki animation ‘Kiki’s Delivery Service’, thank goodness I had kids or I would have been stuck in the Disney dinasaur age.
I love Spirited Away! I had watched it umpteen times. Love the storyline, the romance, the art and the music. It’s really a piece of art.
Awesome choices, I am a serious Miyazaki fan! Nice post π x
great list!! all of them are my favorites too!!
Lion King and South Park, baby!
Miyazaki films and Mulan are great favorites animation choices.

I just saw Howl’s Moving Castle again. What a wonderful film. With Miyazaki, it’s ‘expect the unexpected’ π
Mulan, Spirited Away, and The Incredibles are my favorites also π
